The Crucible

ABOUT THE PROJECT.
For this Hanover Theatre Rep production, we transformed the BrickBox Theater into Salem jail, allowing our all-female cast of "witches" to tell the story of their town's descent into madness. I came to helm this production after a long love affair with the play: from discovering it in eighth grade, to playing Abigail at Trinity Rep, to assisting Eric Tucker on the Bedlam production, to workshopping the all-female concept with an experimental staged reading. The result of all that research was a show of which my team and I were immensely proud. Fearless, furious, and darkly funny throughout, this take on Miller's classic lay bare its scarily relevant themes by placing the entirety of the storytelling in womens’ hands. |
There's a rawness and vulnerability in Proctor and Williams, and in all the characters, that gives this interpretation of The Crucible its distinction, allowing the audience member an intimate glimpse into each one's heart as well as mind. |
